The 'I can't believe you made that' Cake

For my sister's 19th birthday yesterday, I baked her a cake (because I'm the nicest sister ever!) It was a variation on the 'I can't believe you made that' cake recipe by Lorraine Pascale (here) inspired by these blog posts: Chocolate Finger Cake and An Easy Birthday Cake - How to.

It's not too tricky to make and looks pretty good, even if I say so myself! Give it a go!

Also, I reached 50 followers today! Yey! Thanks everyone :-)

Liebster Award Tag

Yesterday I was nominated for the Leibster Award ("This little award is all about discovering new blogs and helping those with less than 200 followers to get recognized") by Myriam - thank you!

So I've been tagged/nominated and here are the rules:

1. Each person tagged must post 11 things about themselves.
2. They must also answer the 11 questions the "tagger" has set for them.
3. They must create 11 more questions to ask bloggers they have decided to tag.
4. They must then choose 11 bloggers with less than 200 followers and them in their post.
5. These lucky bloggers must then be told.
6. There's no tag backs.

So here we go...

11 things about me:

1. My favorite TV shows are Gossip Girl and Friends
2. My dream is to work as an editor for ELLE/VOGUE
3. And to work in London, Paris or New York
4. One day, I hope to speak fluent French
5. My favourite holiday was in NY
6. I love chick flicks as cliché, predictable and cringey as they are!
7. I love summer
8. Winter makes me depressed
9. I really do hate school
10. Lauren Conrad is my idol
11. I am finding it very difficult to find 11 things about me!

The questions I've been asked:

1. What is your favorite lipstick?
I only own about 5 different lipsticks but I would probably say it was one from e.l.f in the shade Classy here

2. Who is your celebrity crush?
I have a few! Ed Westwick, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Heath Ledger, James Franco and Jamie Laing.

3. What has been your favorite summer trend so far this summer?
I love the summer maxi skirts, I own a high-low one from Forever 21

4. What foundation are you using at the moment?
L'Oreal Lumi Magique Foundation in Rose Pearl - it's pretty good for drugstore foundation

5. What is your favorite type of makeup (lipstick, eyeshadow..etc)?
Probaly mascara as it's one of the things I wear everyday without fail and it just makes you look 1000000 times better! I do really love lipstick though as it can dress up an outfit so easily

6. You hate when people wear...?
Crocs. No explanation required.

7. Do you have any tattoos?
Nooooo, I don't really like them!

8. What is your favorite nail polish brand?
Ooh that's tricky! I'd probably say O.P.I, Essie etc. but they're too pricey for me so I'll go with Rimmel and Barry M.

9. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
London, Paris or New York

10. Do you prefer neutral or colorful eyeshadow?
Neutral or smokey

11. What is your favorite concealer and why?
I've not tried many but L'Oreal Lumi Magique Concealer is what I'm using at the moment. It's the concealer version of my foundation and doubles as a really good highlighter. I also use the matching primer!
Questions for my tagged bloggers:

1. What's your favourite U.S drama (TV show)?
2. Favourite movie?
3. Somewhere you would love to go on holiday?
4. Miracle beauty product?

Be Right Back!

Tomorrow I go on holiday to Malta and I am soooo excited (despite the fact that my flight leaves at 7 in the morning!)

I will post photos when I get back. Hope you're all having a lovely summer!

Summer Reads

Everything I'm reading at the moment is, as you would expect, fashion related...

So first of all on my reading list is a novel written by Lauren Conrad, L.A. Candy. I've only read about a quarter so far though I am enjoying it. It's about a couple of girls who move to Los Angeles in the hope of a more interesting life and that's exactly what they get. It's very light-hearted and fun and you'll enjoy it if you're interested in the L.A. lifestyle and reality shows etc. I don't know if you have seen the American sitcom, Don't Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23 (definitely worth watching if you haven't, it's hilarious!), but for some reason, I always picture the two girls in this whilst I am reading it! I will definitely be finishing this book off on holiday on the beach or by the pool.

Next is, of course, my monthly ELLE UK magazine as I have a subscription. The cover girl is Mila Kunis and she looks amazing as usual! You also get a free St. Tropez gradual tan moisturiser with the issue but whilst I haven't tried it out yet, I am rather skeptical as it is medium dark shade and I am pretty pale sooooo. You also get an ELLE the Runway Edit short magazine with the August issue.

I mentioned before that my friends bought me Lauren Conrad's Style book for my birthday but this isn't a book you read just once, it's more like a style bible that you refer back to for tips and ideas. Very inspirational and definitely worth buying! It even tells you how to best pack for your summer holiday!

Finally is a book my Dad bought me called Essential Reporting. Whilst I don't want to be a reporting journalist as such, this is still interesting to flick through as the majority of it is linked to the fashion journalism/editing career I am interested in.

What are you reading this summer?

Millie Mackintosh: Fashion Icon

For those of you who don't live in the UK, you probably won't have heard of Millie Mackintosh but she stars in the reality (sort of) television series, Made in Chelsea, filmed in London, of course. I completely love this show and whilst I don't love her personality, it's Millie's style that is to die for both on and off the show and I just had to blog about it!

I also have a The Beatles and a The Who shirt that I tend to wear with leggings or shorts and a jacket. Great thing is, they're often pretty cheap and can sometimes be found by thrifting and if they happen to be vintage, count it as a bonus!

St.Tropez Spray Tan Review & Tips

As far as I know, a lot, if not most tanning salons now use St. Tropez spray tan and cost around £25. With this, there is one shade for all so the colour varies depending on your skin tone and how well you usually tan in the sun.

24 hours before your tan, you should remove any leg hair and exfoliate your whole body.

The tan typically takes somewhere around half an hour in total and you shouldn't shower for at least 8 hours after the tan so it's a good idea to wash the next morning. During these 8 hours, your tan develops and the colour will darken slightly but don't worry as this will lighten and even once you shower, washing off any the excess. In the shower, you can very lightly exfoliate any areas which may be speckly, streaked or uneven using a shower body polisher very gently. Pat the skin dry afterwards and apply moisturiser to the whole body.

Whilst the usual fake tan smell is still vaguely noticeable, the scent is actually quite pleasant.

For a special occasion, this tan is perfect as it is reasonably natural looking at looks great in photos. However, after the first couple of days, areas of the tan fade and it looks patchy and uneven so if you're going out, you can exfoliate the darker areas in the shower to help even fading.

Overall, I would recommend the St. Tropez spray tan. Even though it does require maintenance, it's definitely worth it for a special occasion e.g. wedding, prom however, having the spray tan before holiday wouldn't be quite as successful since the tan only really looks good for 2-3 days and fades even more quickly with the use of swimming pools etc.

The St. Tropez tan, notorious for its used-by-celebrities reputation, has been recognised and promoted by St. Tropez ambassador and Made in Chelsea's star, Millie Mackintosh and her always glowing and sun-kissed skin is their best advert. If it's good enough for Millie, it's good enough for us!
